چکیده

Background Aortic dissection is a life threatening condition, and the commonest presentation of the acute aortic syndrome, occurring in 80-90% of such cases. Identification of intimal tears is important to enable the success of an interventional procedure. MRI allows for black-blood contrast to depict the aortic vessel wall and intimal flap with positive contrast which help delineate tear and intimal anatomy. However, the conventional black-blood approach (double inversion recovery) is limited to single slice imaging with relatively low resolution in slice direction. In this study, we compare the usefulness of two approaches using T2 prepared inversion recovery (T2IR) and T2 prepared phase sensitive inversion recovery (T2PSIR) for volumetric high-resolution black-blood aortic imaging in healthy volunteers including a pilot study to optimize flow-independence.

3D flow-insensitive vessel wall imaging using T2PREP PSIR with SSFP

Introduction Double Inversion Recovery (DIR) [1] and Flow Sensitive Dephasing (FSD) [2] have been used to suppress arterial signal in vessel wall imaging. However, the “black blood” effect of DIR and FSD depends on blood flow, which makes these techniques less effective with slow or in-plane flow. In this work, T1 and T2 differences between blood and vessel wall were exploited using a T2-prepar...

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence for carotid plaque hemorrhage imaging at 3.0 T.

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence (IR FSPGR) on a 3-T scanner for carotid plaque imaging is described. It offers clear blood and fat signal suppression at the carotid artery bifurcation and highlights the regions of carotid plaque affected by hemorrhage at 3 T with high contrast and contrast-to-noise ratio compared with other sequences. It can p...

Black blood late gadolinium enhancement using combined T2 magnetization preparation and inversion recovery

Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging allows assessment of focal scar [1]. An inversion recovery based sequence is commonly used to achieve suppression of healthy myocardium signal. However, the blood pool and subendocardial scar typically have similar signal, making it difficult to distinguish subendocardial scar. Several methods have been proposed to increase the blood-scar con...

High-Resolution 3D Isotropic Black-Blood Imaging with T2prep Inversion Recovery: Comparison between FSE and SSFP

INTRODUCTION: T2prep Inversion Recovery [1] (T2IR) is a hybrid magnetization preparation technique that combines two well-known preparations, T2prep and Inversion Recovery, to provide contrast between tissues with similar T1 but different T2 relaxation times. This unique property has been utilized in vessel wall imaging where the wall-lumen contrast needs to be maximized for accurate diagnosis....

Diffusion-prepared segmented steady-state free precession: Application to 3D black-blood cardiovascular magnetic resonance of the thoracic aorta and carotid artery walls.

This work developed a three-dimensional (3D) diffusion-prepared segmented steady-steady free precession (DP-SSFP) cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) sequence for black-blood (BB) thoracic aortic and carotid wall visualization. In 14 healthy volunteers, BB CMR of the thoracic aorta (n = 7) and carotid arteries (n = 7) was performed over 12 cm and 3 cm of transversal coverage, respectively, ...
